How adorable is this? This cute Santa Clara Pueblo redware turtle has a perfectly made checkerboard design on its back. This cute little conversation piece measures 5" in length.
Flora Naranjo (1914-2000) learned to make pottery the traditional way from her mother. She was well known and respected as a consistent quality potter. She created pieces using a variety of styles from polychrome, blackware, redware, plainware, and carved pottery. Her work is on display in several galleries throughout the country.
The clay turtle was purchased in the early 1990s, and has had one owner. The turtle has been on display in a non-smoking home in an open, yet protective display case. The art piece would be perfect for decor that emphasizes stylized designs, whimsical designs, or anywhere there is a desire for ethnic art, geometric symmetry, or a wish for natural earthy elements.
