This is a beautifully crafted black on blackware vessel by famed potter Flora Naranjo (1914-2000). This remarkable bowl has a triangular opening giving a unique look to this piece of art. The vessel measures 3“ in height by 4 1⁄4” in width. Unfortunately, the vessel has one crack due to an earthquake, but fortunately the crack does not extend far, nor does is affect the patina, or overall beauty of this piece. The price reflects the damage giving you a chance to own a truly unique, collectible, and valuable piece of art by Flora Naranjo at an exceptional price.
Flora Naranjo was recognized and respected as a consistent quality potter for creating exceptional pottery in a variety of styles from polychrome, blackware, redware, plainware, to carved pottery. Flora Naranjo learned to make pottery the traditional way from her mother. Her work is on display in several galleries throughout the country.
The vessel was purchased at auction (sticker still attached) in the 1980s-1990s, and has had one owner since. The jar has been on display in a non-smoking home. The vessel would be perfect for the currently popular farmhouse decor that emphasizes contrasting between light and dark colors or anywhere there is a desire for ethnic art, smooth designs or a wish for natural earthy elements.
