Wow, what a beauty!! This eye-catching bowl was created using a cream slip on redware technique, and polished to a high sheen. This is a true vintage piece, created in 1977 by famed potter Helen Gutierrez (1935-1993). The bowl measures 4 ½ inches by 2 ¾ inches. The traditional feather designs surround the widest part of the bowl leaving a red border along the collar opening and along the base. The sleek design gives this vintage piece a contemporary feel.

Helen is from a family of famous artists and developed her own exceptional style which included the use of mastered traditional methods of forming, polishing, designing, and firing a piece of pottery. She is known for creating stunning pottery with classic designs in both redware and blackware. Helen has received honors and accolades including at the Santa Fe Indian Market. Her pottery has been on display in collections such as the Millicent Rogers Museum in Taos, New Mexico.

The bowl was purchased at auction in the 1980s-1990s (sticker still attached), and has had one owner since. The bowl has been on display in a non-smoking home in an open, yet protective display case. The vessel would be perfect for the current popular farmhouse style, or anywhere there is a desire for texture, ethnic art, geometric symmetry, or a wish for natural earthy elements.
