This is an intriguing vintage Salish (northwest coast) basket. The Salish are recognized for their weaving skills which is shown in the way this basket is constructed. It has an eye-catching ring of triangles 5 rows down from the brim, and a topped off with triangle details along the top edge. The basket has a lid that sits just below the triangle edge, showing off the delicate triangle details. The basket measures 5 1/2 inches in height by 8 1/2 inches in diameter across the top.
 
This basket was purchased at auction (tag still attached) in the 1980s-1990s and appears old. An appraiser has declared the basket to be Salish, but no authentication of age or origin is available.
 
Wear is apparent which would be expected for an older basket. It is in good-fair condition: it is missing a few stiches, is dry, faded, and worn. Price has been reduced to reflect its condition.
 
This is a versatile piece which would look wonderful in the currently popular farmhouse style, a contemporary decor, or anywhere there is desire for warmth, smooth lines, texture, and an earthy element.
