What a stunning piece! This is an exceptional Isleta Pueblo vessel that has a low shoulder, and a unique opening of three swirling points. This unusual departure in style also has three beautifully detailed swirling winged designs. Together the shape of the bowl and the winged designs results in an exquisite and graceful vessel. The bowl measures 6 ½ inches in diameter and 3 ¼ inches in height.
Stella Teller (born 1929) is a famous potter who is primarily known for her storytellers. Her award-winning pottery and figures are highly sought after and her work is on display in museums throughout the country. Her work is so highly regarded that her work was part of the Smithsonian Institute’s traveling exhibit in 1987. Her work has even been recognized internationally.
The bowl was purchased at auction in the 1980s-1990s (sticker still attached), and has had one owner since. The bowl has been on display in a non-smoking home in an open, yet protective display case. The vessel would be perfect for the current popular farmhouse style, or anywhere there is a desire for texture, ethnic art, geometric symmetry, or a wish for natural earthy elements.
